“Animals” (2011)

Collage art has always intrigued me.  One source of inspiration for wanting to attempt this art medium comes from a book titled MAGICAL METEORITE SONGWRITING DEVICE  Collages by Exene Cervenka (Perceval Press). Exene is best known as the singer for the Los Angeles punk rock band, X.

Over the years I have collected materials, mostly from thrift stores, to use for such an endeavor. Before long I amassed a collection of items to use but have been needing to create the art to insert them into.  I finally stopped by myself from obtaining more items until I use what have in the current stash.

This collage, titled Animals, was created with items from said stash.  I embarked on this project back on Memorial Day in 2011 while Alex and and I were indulging in a movie marathon.  It contains whole and cut up cards from a wildlife card collection obtained at the thrift store, as well as cut outs from old National Geographic magazines, all glued onto a perfect square piece of cardboard that was lurking in my office closet.
