STUDIO REPORT: June 2026

It’s hard to believe 2026 is already half over. It seems like it was only yesterday we were ringing in the new year! And in the not-too-distant future we will be ringing in 20….hold on, let’s wait to see what the next half of 2026 has in store for us!

Best thing that happened in my world this month:

A few years ago, Alex and I met with our dear friend, Gary Bowers, for lunch at OHSO in Arcadia and had a wonderful time conversing, sharing ideas and inspiring each other. This month we met him once again at the original Los Dos Molinos in South Phoenix (I highly recommend their prickly pair margarita) as a part of his farewell tour. Gary found  love – hi, Donna! – and will soon be leaving Phoenix to embark on a journey to his next adventure in the northeast.  While selfish me is sad to see him go, I’m happy that he’s happy and that life is opening new doors for him. Our visit was the top highlight of the month. It has been a privilege to know him, and we hope to see him again sooner than later when the Universe lines up the stars. I sent him off with Phoenix Memories for which he wrote a poem, and read it at one his last local readings – as well as a few little friends to travel along with him. We love you and wish you all the best, Gary!

On the Art Front

Some days making time to create is easier said than done. I have 1,001+ ideas and only so much time in the day. Recently I started seeing reels regarding junk journaling pop up in my social media feeds. While I already have created a mess of projects for myself, I still felt inspired to start a micro junk journal in the form of  a 3″x4″ sketchbook for travelers. Every day there is junk mail – at home, at the office, in my email, etc.  All are filled with texts and images that could be cut down (or torn down) to size to document a day’s adventures (or misadventures) in the form of a mini collage.  Junk mail is just one source of material, there are myriad others. On the surface, it may sound like the predecessor to hoarding junk paper, but once a few bits are arranged on a page, the results can be interesting.
