Gel Print Journal: Pages 6-7

Gel Print Journal: pgs. 6-7

The color palettes in these pages evoke memories from 2005.  Late that spring, Alex and I decided it was time to move.  We found our new home in the South Mountain area.

The greens on page 6 take me to when we were house hunting along the Baseline corridor. The area was developing with new neighborhoods and shopping centers were going up at many major intersections.  Land that used be part of  the iconic flower farms had been sold off to developers by the mid-2000s. Where there weren’t yet new houses, acres of land had become lots for tree nurseries. There were young boxed green trees for miles. A few miles south of Baseline takes you to the foot of South Mountain,  where in the spring the area is green with a variety of cacti, grasses and shrubs.

Our moving date was in late July.  At the same time, our monsoon season had gotten off to a late start. We spent the daytime indoors packing boxes to avoid the heat, and the evening hours loading and moving.  On a few nights, storm clouds rolled in around sunset, and the lighting created shades of purples, pinks and golds, similar to the colors on page 7.  Despite the misery our summers bring, nothing beats an Arizona sunset; and it’s always worth stopping for a moment to take one in!

Our new home was built by its previous owner only a few months prior to when we purchased it.  The textures and palettes on both pages remind me of the decor the owner had used when listing the house. Patterns and textures throughout the house leaned toward a natural look.  While the house was minimally decorated, there was just enough textures and patterns throughout to make it feel well-appointed.

Last summer marked 20 years we’ve been in this home. It has since undergone an interior refresh. We traded the warm natural/neutral color scheme for cooler tones and a more rustic meets light industrial theme.  Many memories have been made here, and I look forward to what the next twenty years may bring.
